Project description:
The Gloria Fuertes Public School of Special Education is a regional center located in Andorra (Teruel). In this center, we meet students with different special communication needs and, as Javier Tamarit (2006) affirms, “Providing a means of communication is a right and an ethical responsibility, not a choice of professionals”.
Hence, for more than a decade the purpose of educational practice is the creation of accessible communicative environments where students, with special communication needs, can express their requests and feelings with the support of gestural or graphic systems with their correspondingtechnical aids for communication.
Currently, it is widespread in the CPEE Gloria Fuertes the use of ARASAAC pictograms with different functions:
- Signage of the center spaceswith pictograms, photographs and bimodal, and some of them also with real objects.
- Anticipation of routines.
- Communication of basic needs.
- Choice of activities.
- Adaptation of materials.
